assault in the capital Kampala, police said.<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old, who was captain of Uganda\u2019s record-breaking champions SC Villa, was \u2060critically injured by unidentified assailants in a capital.<\/p>\n<p>Owori was found unconscious \u2060by passers-by, who took him to a nearby hospital. He was transferred to another hospital where he was later pronounced dead, Kawala said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDavid was not just a footballer. He was both a leader \u200cand an inspiration to a generation. As Captain of SC Villa, he led with courage, humility and passion. In the Uganda Cranes jersey, he carried the hopes of a nation,\u201d the Federation of Uganda Football Associations said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Crime is rampant in the capital of the East \u2060African country and many Ugandans expressed outrage \u2060at his death on X.
